Vaughan College History
Jewry Wall Museum was originally built (1958-62) as the home for the Leicester Vaughan College, occupying the upper ground floor and opening in 1962, with the Jewry Wall Museum occupying the lower ground floor which opened to the public in March 1966.
Leicester Vaughan College is now an independent higher education college set up as a co-operative community benefit society to continue the work of the former Vaughan College which closed in 2020.
Leicester Vaughan College started life in 1862 as the ‘Working Men’s institute with Library, Reading Room and Class’. This Institute later became Vaughan College, which relocated in 1962 to the newly built Trevor Dannatt building adjacent to the Jewry Wall Roman ruins.
